French and Saunders: Monarch of the Glum

Just in case you haven't seen this... The following was lifted directly from my Outlander blog: My Outlander Purgatory.  It's not stealing if you're stealing from yourself. ;)

SPOILER ALERT:  Do not watch unless you have watched 4 seasons of Monarch of the Glen.

I was the BIGGEST fan of Absolutely Fabulous back in the 90s and canna love Jennifer Saunders any more than I already do.  So you can imagine how beyond hysterical I find this parody of Monarch of the Glen - complete with Alasdair Mackenzie playing Archie.  I don't know who is funnier, Molly or Duncan.  Thank you SO MUCH to Jennifer J. for posting this!

Scotland: Monarch of the Glen - UK

You MUST go watch this video about the Land Reform Act that was passed in 2003 regarding the Scottish Highlands.  (It has nothing to do with the popular television show of the same name.)

If anyone has more info about how things have gone since the act was passed, please comment!  It's a very hard thing to research online.  Lots of legal mumbo jumbo and miles of data/info.  But what I'm looking for is this:  Is it working?  How have things changed?  For the better or worse?  An how do the (former?) estate owners feel now that it's been passed for 8 years?

The Party's Over

Oh I am so SAD!  We finished the whole series and now we don't know what to do!  Maybe start over?

Ya know - it's so funny when you go back and watch Season 1 - Episode 1.  It all makes sense the second you start it - with Hector yelling "BIG ERIC!!!"  The first time we ever watched it we were like "WTF???"

A few things:

Um  -  are Paul and Iona marrit or what?!  We didn't know what was going on.  Everyone was just frolicking around the manse, eating tons of Ewan's food (on Glen Bogle's dime) but they never really explained what was happening.

I love Susan Hampshire.  I miss her terribly.  We can't help watching her videos on Youtube.

Seeing Hector come back after all that time was awesome.  I love him.  I almost started crying at one point - but then things got light again and I was OK.

Alastair Mackenzie didn't come back for the finale?  Things that make you go "hmmmmm".

See the previous point but sub in the name "Dawn Steele".

Kilwillie makes my entire day.  Every time I see him I canna help but scream out "KILWILLIE!"

Ewan = Hil-AR-ious.  I wish he'd move in next door to me and attend our neighborhood barbecues.  He'd be a hilarious neighbor, would he not?

Iona's wedding dress was my DREAM dress.  If I could get marrit again, I would totally wear that with its simple drape and fluted sleeves. I have considered doing a vow retake in Scotland for my 20th just so I can wear a dress like that and frolic barefoot in the heather while my voice carries on the wind.  (Could you please TRY not to laugh at me?  Thankyouverramuch.)

OK that's it for now - more to come.  I found an AWESOME video on youtube last night about modern day life in the Highlands; it is not to be missed.

Oh Those Crazy Bogles!

SPOILER ALERT:  Dinna watch unless ye have watched up through Season 7 - Episode 4.

I only have two episodes left.  And THIS is why my blogs are called "Purgatory".  I am in such purgatory now, I dinna know what to DO with myself.  Forget telling me not tae fash myself, lads and lassies...I did that long ago.

OK - so let's see - what's been happenin' 'round the estate?  Weeeel...Molly is still her usual, adorable self...and I am dying to find out if she'll end up with Golly or Kilwillie...OR if she'll just choose to be on her own when the show ends.  I know there is a wedding in our midst (because I saw the damned spoiler on Youtube) - but I have no idea whose it is!  Molly?  Paul?  Ewan?  Nah, canna be Ewan...his love is only 16.

And speaking of Ewan...thank GOD he dumped that loser barkeep from down-the-pub.  Ugh.  She was so MEAN!  When he showed up at the pub one day, I thought "HOW can you take her back after she made you jump into the loch?!"  And he did NOT let me down.  He dumped her rude ass and put a big, ol' smile on my face.

Wow - have I gotten this far without mentioning the wee baby and poor Meg?  Eh - we all know how I felt about Meg's being around.  Not that I didna like her...but girlfriend was taking away from Golly's not-really-there courtship with Molly.  And speaking of Molly - I am wondering if they nixed Meg to open the door for Molly and Golly!  Guess I'll have to wait and see...

I don't know how to feel about...um...whatshername?  Oh yeah - Ione.  She seems sweet enough...and I guess I want Paul with someone sweet because he's such a nice guy...but...I dunno.  She's not really bowling me over.  I think I just miss Lexie...and no one is ever going to measure up.

Returns:

DUNCAN!  It was so awesome to see him again!!  I was so happy he came back.  Although - why didn't he contact Jess?  That was bizarre.  Golly's like his dad - he leaves Glenbogle for the first time, EVER...and he doesn't call or write?  Weird.  Totally weird.

KILWILLIE!  I jumped up and down and grabbed my husband's arm and yelled "KILWILLIE!"  We were SO excited to see him.  And boyfriend lost some poundage, too!  He looked fab!  I was so happy he ditched the bitchy broad from New York.  And go Molly for telling him what a witch she was.

OK all - I will let you know when I'm finished.  I'm sure I'll shed a tear or two.  And then I'll go right straight to Facebook and join/create the "Bring Back Monarch of the Glen" group.  :)

Things are HEATING UP!

SPOILER ALERT:  Dinna watch unless you have watched Season 6, Episode 8 on Monarch of the Glen.

OK - my first order of bizznazz:  Bye Meg!  Don't let the large, studded, medieval door hit you on the ass on the way out!

I will admit: I liked her.  Liked.  ED.  Until poor Molly got back from her yoga retreat (Jealous, party of 1?) and realized she had herself some bona fide feelings for our Golly.  Mmm hmmm.  And who wouldn't?  Boyfriend is a stud.  Let's face it.

So anyway - when the Dancing Queen showed up and showed interest - I thought it was cute.  But now I am glad to see her go.  Let's just get Molly back from "I have personal business in real life" land so she and Golly can get BUSY.

Next - Paul.  He gets more scrumptious by the day.  I don't blame all these women for fighting over him.  Actually - Isabel and Lucy have been very courteous to each other since Lucy showed her laird-trapped-in-the-body-of-a-personal-assistant ass on the scene.  But here's what I don't get.  WHY would Paul make out with her at that party???  He knew Isabel could come out and see him at any moment.  And if that's why he did it?  Well that's just a big, ol' cheesy move, don'tcha think?  I didn't like that.

What I DO like - no, LOVE - is the tension between Paul and Isabel.  It's delicious.  I also love the new Laird next door.  He's pretty delicious as well.  I know I saw him in "Persuasion" last year but damn if I can remember it.  Sometimes those Jane Austen adaptations run together in my mind.

OK so what else?  Oh yeah - Jess!  I wanted her to meet up with the hottie-pattotie vet down at the pub!  I thought it was so sweet that she was hanging with Golly...but girlfriend needs a storyline!  (And an occasional skirt, but that's beside the point.)

And how much do I love Ewan?  He is some much-needed comic relief in spots.  And he's totally adorable with that Glasgow (actually, Renfrewshire) accent.

And last but not least - while I'm on the subject of comic relief - I have truly come to love Donald.  He is Hector revisited.  What an ingenious move, making him Hector's bro.  They are so alike.  I keep thinking how much I wish Kilwillie would show up and get into antics and hijinks with Donald.  A girl can dream, right?

Better Late Than Never

SPOILER ALERT:  Dinna read unless you have watched up to Season 6, Episode 6 in Monarch of the Glen.

WHY is Golly dating - no, most likely BEDDING - that dance instructor...when Molly has basically told him she wants to be with him?  All those years of admiring her from afar...all that pining...for what?!  The man was going to give her a RING a few weeks ago...and now he's going on HOLIDAY with some TART who teaches ballroom dancing?!?

Oh who am I kidding?  I really like the tart.  (Sorry - for the life of me, I canna remember the tart's name.)  LIKED, that is.  Until Molly got upset.  Now I just want her G-O-N-E.  And the LAST thing I want is Molly to hook up with Donald.  Blech!  I enjoy the old chap immensely (totes wish they'd bring Kilwillie back to get up to some serious antics and hijinks with him.)  But I do NOT want him with Molly!  My god it would be like setting up Rodney Dangerfield with Helen Mirren!  Balderdash!!!
