Better Late Than Never

SPOILER ALERT:  Dinna read unless you have watched up to Season 6, Episode 6 in Monarch of the Glen.

WHY is Golly dating - no, most likely BEDDING - that dance instructor...when Molly has basically told him she wants to be with him?  All those years of admiring her from afar...all that pining...for what?!  The man was going to give her a RING a few weeks ago...and now he's going on HOLIDAY with some TART who teaches ballroom dancing?!?

Oh who am I kidding?  I really like the tart.  (Sorry - for the life of me, I canna remember the tart's name.)  LIKED, that is.  Until Molly got upset.  Now I just want her G-O-N-E.  And the LAST thing I want is Molly to hook up with Donald.  Blech!  I enjoy the old chap immensely (totes wish they'd bring Kilwillie back to get up to some serious antics and hijinks with him.)  But I do NOT want him with Molly!  My god it would be like setting up Rodney Dangerfield with Helen Mirren!  Balderdash!!!

  1. Ummm, yeah, I know. Not even going to mention the fact that she must be, like 35? 40? And he is 70ish? Hmmmmmmm. Glad to see everything is obviously in "working order".

I've finished watching the entire series now (except the Hogmanay episode......where did that come from?)and will totally watch it again. I enjoyed the series immensely.....but......nothing compares to the first few seasons. I used to laugh hysterically at Hector!!

    Ps.
What do these people have against showing affection for eachother?

    Ps.2.
Thanks for MOTG Purgatory!!! You rock!!

  2. THANK YOU SO MUCH for creating this blog! I only wish it had started with season 1 - would have loved to read your observations after each episode.

The tart's name is Meg and I'm with you all the way.....how on earth would someone her age get together with Golly?? It doesn't make sense - especially since he has been so attracted to Molly (who's obviously no spring chicken).

I'm not wild about the Donald character - although my kids got very excited when he first came on the screen....My 11 yr old recognized him as one of the Dr. Who's (there's been God only knows how many - like 10 or 11). This was back in the 1970's I believe; when the actor was much younger and thinner. :) Anyway my kids love whenever he appears.

  3. Wasn't sure where to post this comment, but figured here was as good a place as any. After so many of us missed the boat on the Hogmany "hidden" episode, I decided to look at the backs of all my MOTG DVD boxes to see what they listed in Special Features. On Season 1, there is something all fans may enjoy. There was/is a show in the UK called "Holiday"- it's a travelogue and in 2001 they did an episode on all the shooting locations of MOTG and had most of the principal actors on board to be guides (Archie, Molly, Duncan, Lexie, Golly and Hector). Very helpful if anyone wanted to plan a trip to the Highlands and see where the show was filmed. That's all for now - I'll report back again after I've checked the other boxes. :)

  4. YAY - finally a MOTG blog! :-D

Julia, thanks for the tip about other "extras". I'll have to do a YouTube search for them.

I'm confused about the whole "Golly/Molly" thing. What exactly happened there?? I even went back today and re-watched the episode where they almost bought that farmhouse from the crazy old lady. Did Molly basically tell him that she just wanted to be good friends, and that was the end of it? Then, naturally, once he starts dating young Meg, she gets a little pissy about it. Do I have all of that right? I feel like I missed something...

I just finished episode 8 in season 6, and after episode 10 I guess I'll be moving on to season 7 episodes on YouTube. I'm going to miss this bunch when it's over!

  5. BTW, my 9 year-old son was walking around humming the MOTG theme song today. Put a smile on my face! lol

  6. Yes, my 9 yr old - and also my 11 and 6 yr olds - are all MOTG addicts now. So funny how quickly they picked up the Scottish lingo. :)

  7. This show is famous for leaving things open-ended. Molly just disappears for eps at a time. I once saw an interview with her where she said it was really hard on their personal lives because they had to be up in the Highlands for 8 months at a time...so it's understandable.

  8. Well now I feel guilty about wondering where in the HECK Molly has been for a few episodes in a row! lol OK, OK, personal lives have to come first....
